Assault On the Rule of Law at the National Orthopedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos

(Lagos, 24/04/2014) Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC) today expresses deep concern over the escalation of the case of the two victims of discrimination at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi Lagos (NOHIL) by the termination of employment yesterday of the two victims of discrimination by the management of NOHIL. In the last few weeks, two nursing staff of the hospital, Mrs Fasilat Olayinka Lawal and Miss Sekinat Sanusi, both wearing shoulder length hijab, were subjected to cruel and degrading treatments by some of the senior nurses of the hospital- simply because of their choice to wear the hijab at work. By its latest action, NOHIL and the hospital management continue to show aggression against the victims and unrestrained and unaccountable hostility towards the Islamic faith. The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) prescribes a standard uniform for all nurses in Nigeria and in its circular of 11th February, 2002 (reference number N&MCN/CMF/721/1/3), it unambiguously specifies that "female nurses” may “wear either a Nurse cap or a shoulder length hyjab”. The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria is a parastatal of the Federal Government of Nigeria established by Act Cap. No143 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, and the Council is the only regulatory body for all cadres of Nurses and Midwives in Nigeria. As law-abiding citizens that were working hard and doing a good job, the victims had approached the court to secure their rights, and to obtain injunction against further actions by the management of the NOHIL. It is therefore shocking that NOHIL’s reaction to these sisters positive example is to flagrantly disregard the court’s explicit order and continue to demonstrate hostility and tyranny. The dismissive attitude of the National Orthopedic Hospital Igbobi towards our judiciary system illustrates once again the unhealthy culture within the hierarchy of the hospital management and their resolve to scandalize the court. The sisters will continue to demand justice, and the resolve of the Muslim community to stand with them is only strengthened by this latest act of aggression. As these sisters continue to seek justice by all lawful means, MPAC honours them and their empowering stance. The decision to sack victims of discrimination is not only oppressive towards the victims, it is another stain on the history of NOHIL. Tyranny of employers, public and private, highlights the need for our lawmakers to do the right things and make laws that will criminalise discrimination on the basis of religions. We encourage other Muslims in a similar situation to step forward and report/take lawful actions against any employer that is forcing them to have to choose between their religion and work. Finally, MPAC urges all Islamic organizations, mosques, Imams, human right groups and all individuals who cherish and value our collective aspiration to live in an inclusive society to lend their prayers and supports to these latest victims of discrimination against religion.

CAN attacks Islam again

Alabi Afin When leaders of Muslims in Nigeria talk, they addressed issues and not care about development of Xtianity in the country, but same cannot be said for Xtians leaders who seized every opportunity they had to attack Islam, it's institutions and personalities. CAN diatribe is getting worse by the day. They shouldn't plunge this nation into religious crisis. Read this piece: CAN wants governors to control Commissioners of Police Posted by: The Nation Christians are seeking an amendment to 1999 Constitution to enable governors control Commissioners of Police. Besides, they are recommending massive deployment of electronic and human intelligence gathering to overcome security challenges facing the nation. They also would like Nigerian to withdraw from foreign religious organizations, including the Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC). The Christian Association of Nigerian (CAN) made its position known in a 20-page memo to the ongoing National Conference in Abuja. In the memo, which is sub-titled “That we all may be ONE”, has been submitted to the leadership of the National Conference being headed by a former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi. In the document, the organisation says the constitutional establishment and funding of Sharia Court amount to tacit adoption of Islam as a state religion. It sought for another amendment to the constitution which will ensure the establishment and funding of Ecclesiastical Courts for Christians in Nigeria.TCAN said: “By Section 14(2) of the Constitution of Nigeria (1999), state governors are chief security officers of their respective states. However, the law gave them responsibility for security of their respective states without giving them any corresponding powers to carry out this function. “It is recommended that Section 215 of the Constitution be amended to give state governors operational control over the Commissioner of Police in their respective states while their administrative control should reside in the Inspector-General of Police.” CAN challenged the government on the prevalent insecurity nationwide because Section 14(2) (b) of the 1999 Constitution makes the security of the people the primary purpose of government. The memo added: “Government must rise to the occasion against the current level of insecurity and nip in the bud violent criminal tendencies masquerading in the name of religion and freedom of worship before it blossoms into a national religious crises to the detriment of us all. “Intelligence gathering machinery involving both electronic and human intelligence must be urgently developed and deployed for this new phase of insecurity. “Our borders must no longer remain porous. The movement of small or medium arms and ammunition into our country is massive and should be checked. “The menace of Fulani or other militia attacking villages in the late hours of the night under the guise of ‘unknown gunmen’ should be immediately checked before there is a sudden eruption of violence overwhelming the nation.” On national census, CAN asked the government to ensure that it reflects “both the religion and ethnicity of the citizens in all the states and local governments”. It demanded immediate withdrawal of Nigeria from membership of foreign religious organizations, such as OIC and the D8. “It is on record as a known fact that Nigeria is a member of some foreign religious organizations such as the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) and Islam in Africa Organisation (IAC) and the D8 Group of Nations. “The membership of Nigeria in these religious organisations is (a) without any legislative approval of the National Assembly (b) a clear breach of the provision of Section 10 of the Constitution of Nigeria which prohibits the adoption of any religion as state religion because membership depicts Nigeria as an Islamic country; (c) the theocratic ideology behind the current bloodshed in our nation is traceable to these external influence.” On the fight against corruption, CAN recommended the “designation of some Federal and State High Courts within the existing court structure to handle corruption cases to the exclusion of all other cases to enable speedy trial and disposal of cases. “The present situation in which trial of corruption cases look like a legal picnic and purely theatrical can only serve the course of impunity.” The organisation claimed that the establishment of sharia courts was a “tacit adoption and promotion of Islam as State religion. “Christians therefore demand for constitutional amendment to make equivalent constitutional provisions for the establishment and funding of Ecclesiastical Courts for Christians in Nigeria. Equality of treatment is the life blood of all fundamental rights.” CAN faulted the government’s takeover of Christian mission schools without applying the same law to Islamic schools. It also queried the establishment of Almajir schools in some parts of the country. It said: “Ironically, government has never taken over any Islamic school but has been very busy establishing and funding Almajir schools which are purely religious schools. “This is a clear act of injustice, inequality and discrimination against Christians. Government should establish and fund new Christian schools corresponding to the standard of the Almajir schools being presently established to ensure equality of treatment to both religions and end the obvious discrimination. “Christians, therefore, demand the return of all Christian mission schools compulsorily taken over in 1972 to their owners with full financial grant for their rehabilitation.”

THE CONDITIONS OF HIJAB IN ISLAM

Praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds Who says: O Children of Aadam! We have bestowed raiment upon you to cover yourselves and as an adornment, and the raiment of righteousness, that is better. Such are among the signs of Allaah that they may remember (Q7:26). We praise and thank Him abundantly. May Allaah shower is blessing on Muhammmad (SAW) who was raise as mercy upon the entirely of mankind, (May Allaah also be pleased with) his household, companions and those who follow them in righteousness until the Day of Judgment. O servants of Allaah! I admonish you and myself to fear Allaah the exalted both in secret and public since it is (the means to) success, victory and salvation. And be afraid of the day when you shall be brought back to Allaah. Then every person shall be paid what he earned, and the shall not be dealt with unjustly” Brothers in faith, this is the sixth gathering on steps towards state of a Muslim woman in Islamic perspective. We have explained important issues; for example: women rights and their position in Islam, excellence of hijaab and criticism against nudity . Today inshaa Allaah , we shall centre our discussion on The conditions of Hijab in Islam. O esteemed Muslims! There are some conditions to be met by hijaab in Islam. Certainly, a Muslim woman is not accepted until she is (dressed) according to Quran and Sunnah. Thus, she attains the success of this world and the hereafter. These are the conditions: First Condition: Covering of all the body parts except the permitted areas It is mentioned in the Quran: {وَقُلْ لِلْمُؤْمِنَاتِ يَغْضُضْنَ مِنْ أَبْصَارِهِنَّ وَيَحْفَظْنَ فُرُوجَهُنَّ وَلا يُبْدِينَ زِينَتَهُنَّ إِلَّا مَا ظَهَرَ مِنْهَا وَلْيَضْرِبْنَ بِخُمُرِهِنَّ عَلَى جُيُوبِهِنَّ وَلا يُبْدِينَ زِينَتَهُنَّ إِلَّا لِبُعُولَتِهِنَّ أَوْ آبَائِهِنَّ أَوْ آبَاءِ بُعُولَتِهِنَّ أَوْ أَبْنَائِهِنَّ أَوْ أَبْنَاءِ بُعُولَتِهِنَّ أَوْ إِخْوَانِهِنَّ أَوْ بَنِي إِخْوَانِهِنَّ أَوْ بَنِي أَخَوَاتِهِنَّ أَوْ نِسَائِهِنَّ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُهُنَّ} [سورة النور: الآية 31] And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private part (from illegal sexual acts, etc.) and not to show off their adornment (Q24:31). O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (veils) (Q33:59). In the first verse, it is clear that covering all the adornment is compulsory without leaving anything bare in the presence of illegal men except what is apparent without intention to show it. ….Ibn Katheer says in his tafseer thus: “… They (women) should not show anything of their adornment to outside men except what is difficult to conceal.” Bn Mas’ uud says: “like garment and raiment, … as part of the practice of Arab women who is veiled and dignifies her cloth. What does not show from underneath the dress, there is no blame on her on that. This is because it is not easy to conceal it...” Equally, Imaam Naasirud-deen Al-albaanee said scholars are of different opinions on the interpretation of the verse Except what is apparent (Q24:31). Some said “ it is the physical garment”. Others said it is the Kuhl (Eye liner or tiro), ring, bangle, face etc. from the statements narrated by Bn Jareer in his interpretation … He said: “The most correct of the opinions is that which translate the exempted to mean the face and the two palms, including the eyeliner, the ring, the bangles and the pigmentation of the palm. It is compulsory for everyone praying to cover all the body as well as the woman, a woman could keep her face open while praying having covered every other parts. She could also leave open half part of the arm owing to the narration which stated that the Prophet permitted her to leave open half part of her arm. She is therefore permitted to expose any part not regarded as part of her privacy just like the men such would not be regarded as forbidden. 2- Second Condition: It should not be an ornament in itself: Based on the verse earlier mentioned in Suratu-Nuur: ({وَلا يُبْدِينَ زِينَتَهُنَّ} [النور: 31]) And should not show their adornment” (Q24:31) Generally, adornment comprises the apparent dress when the adornment is an ornament which attracts men’s sight towards her. That is evident in the verse (Q33:33): ({وَقَرْنَ فِي بُيُوتِكُنَّ وَلا تَبَرَّجْنَ تَبَرُّجَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ الأُولَى}) “And stay in your houses, and do not display yourselves like that of the times of ignorance …” The Holy Prophet says: “There are three kinds of people you should not ask about them (because they doomed): a man who dissociated from the Jamaa’ah and disobey his Imam and died disobedient. And a slave male or female, who runaway from the master and died, and a woman whose husband was absent having provided for her every worldly provision and she wantonly displayed her beauties in his absence, never ask about them.” (Bukhari, ibn hibaan, hakim & ahmad) The intention of hijab is to cover woman’s adornment. It is not reasonable that the Hijab in itself be an adornment as it is commonly practiced today in women’s appearance. For this reason, Imaam Dhahabiy says in his book “Kitaabul-Kabaair, page 131: Among the acts which bring curses on a woman is exposure of her adornment, gold and diamond under the veil, and applying the Musk, ambergris, perfume when she goes out. Also wearing (colourfully) dyed cloths, silky loin wrappers, short blouses, with expanded long sleeves etc all these are part of the tabarruj which deserve the wrath of Allah in this world and the hereafter. The Prophet said: “I looked at the hell and found that women are most of its inhabitants” Al-Imaam Al-Albaanee said: Islaam has sought the peak of caution against nudity and compared it to shirk (associating partner with Allaah), Zinaa (fornication), theft and others among the prohibited. That is why it was mentioned among the prohibited act during the oath of allegiance sworn by new female converts. Narrated Abdullah bn Umar: Umaymah bint Ruqayqah came to take pledge of Allegiance to Islam from the prophet (pbuh) and he said: “I took pledge with you that you will not associate anything with Allah, nor will you steal, nor will you commit unlawful sexual intercourse, nor will you kill your child, nor will you bring forth a slander you have invented between your arms and legs, nor will you engage in wailing over the dead, nor will you engage in tabarruj of the days of ignorance …” (Ahmad) It should not be misconstrued that wearing colours other than black and white is part of adornment, two reasons could be set to erode this misconception: One: The Prophet said: “The perfume of women is that which the colour is shown and the odour concealed” Two: The common practices of the female companions as narrated by Abu Shaybah in “Al-Musannaf” 8/371- 372 as follow: - Narrated Ibrahim An-Nakh’iyy, that he used to accompany Alqamah and Al-Aswad to visit the wives of the Prophet (pbuh). And he saw them wearing red quilt. - Narrated Abu Malikah: he said: I saw Ummu salamah wearing a coat and a garment dye in yellow. - Narrated Qasim bn Muhammad bn Abubakr As-sideeq that ‘Aisha did wore a yellow cloth while in state of ihram. - Saeed bn Jubair also narrated that he saw some wives of the Prophet (pbuh) circumambulating the Ka’bah with yellow clothes. 3- Third Condition: The Hijab should be thick and not transparent: Covering is achieved with thick clothes while transparent clothes increase women temptation and adornments. The The prophet said: “The end time of my ummah shall witness some women who are clothed but naked, on their heads will be the like of the humps of the camels. Curse them, they are cursed.” (Tabaraaniy) In another narration: “… They will not enter Paradise nor even smell its fragrance, and its fragrance can be smelled from such and such a distance.” Ummu ‘Alqamah said: “I saw Hafsah the daughter of Abdur-Rahman bn Abubakr came to ‘Aisha wearing a thin khimar (an head cover) which reveals her forehead, and ‘Aisha (R.A) tore it and said: “Don’t you know what Allah revealed in Suratu-n-Nur? Then, She called for a khimar (head cover) and covered her” (by Ibn Sa’d, 8/46) Narrated Abdullah bn Abi Salamah, that Umar bn Khattab (R.A) Qubtiyyah - an Egypt-made cloth to people, (it was a thin material made in Egypt). Then he said: “Let not your women use it (the cloth) as excuse (to wear light or thin cloth). A man said: “O leader of the believers, I have clothed my wife with it, and I inspected her in it by going forth and back at home, I did not see it transparent.” Umar (R.A) said: “If it is not transparent, it will depict the shape” (Al-bayhaqi, 2/234- 235). These two references show that for a cloth to be transparent or descriptive of body shape in unacceptable among them, and that the transparent one is worse than the descriptive one. This account for the saying of ‘Aisha (R.A) thus: “The khimar (head cover) is that which covers the skin and hair.” (Al-bayhaqi, 2/ 235). 4- The fourth Condition: The Hijab should be loose, spacious, not tight that will describe the body. Narrated Usama bn Zaid: “The Prophet (pbuh) clothe me Qubtiyyah- a thick Egyptian cloth, of the gift Di’hyah Al-kalbiy presented to him. I gave my wife the cloth and he said: “Why didn’t you wear the Qubtiyyah? I said: “I have given my wife.” He said: “Instruct her to wear a light cloth under it, verily I fear that it (the Qubtiyyah) could describe the size of her body shape. (Ahmad/ Bayhaqi) This hadith describes the obligation as mentioned by Imam Ash-shaokaaniy that it is mandatory for a woman to cover her body with a cloth that will not describe her body shape and this is a basic condition for the cloth used to cover one’s nudity … and that was why an underwear was recommended by the Prophet (pbuh). ‘Aisha (R.A) said: “A woman must have three clothes with which she observes solat: a blouse, a jalbaab (outer loose gown) and a khimaar (head cover) (Ibn Sa’d; 8/71, with sound chain on the authority of Muslim) Allah says: {اتَّبِعُوا مَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْكُمْ مِنْ رَبِّكُمْ وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا مِنْ دُونِهِ أَوْلِيَاءَ قَلِيلًا مَا تَذَكَّرُونَ} [الأعراف: 3] . Follow, [O mankind], what has been revealed to you from your Lord and do not follow other than Him any allies. Little do you remember. (7: 3) SECOND KHUTBAH All praises are due to Allah sufficiently. May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon the chosen Prophet, his household and his companions who were committed to their faithfulness. Allah says: :" وَإِذَا أَرَدْنَا أَنْ نُهْلِكَ قَرْيَةً أَمَرْنَا مُتْرَفِيهَا فَفَسَقُوا فِيهَا فَحَقَّ عَلَيْهَا الْقَوْلُ فَدَمَّرْنَاهَا تَدْمِيرًا " {الإسراء :16} And when We intend to destroy a city, We command its affluent but they defiantly disobey therein; so the word comes into effect upon it, and We destroy it with [complete] destruction.. (17: 16) Thereafter, O servants of Allah, in the commentary to the verse above, Dr Wa’hbah Az-Zuhailiy said: “And when We intend to destroy a city …” i.e … when the time of total destruction of a people draws nearer, we command the affluent persons on obedience and righteousness. But when they contravene the command and cause mischief, punishment becomes irrevocable in accordance with their treachery. Such destruction encompasses the entire community and all people; rich and poor. The affluent ought to be the most thankful, but when he fails, he becomes the most deserving of wrath. The affluent was mentioned in the verse to illustrate their influence on the masses in any society. Allah says: وَكَذلِكَ جَعَلْنا فِي كُلِّ قَرْيَةٍ أَكابِرَ مُجْرِمِيها لِيَمْكُرُوا فِيها [الأنعام 6/ 123] “And thus We have placed within every city the greatest of its criminals to conspire therein.” (6:123) Sins serve as the chief cause of human destruction in life and hereafter, it cause strange diseases and epidemics. Today, the EBOLA VIRUS outbreak is spreading through the neighbouring countries to Nigeria, including, Guinea where about hundred persons have died, it has reached Liberia, Ghana, Mali … The Prophet (pbuh) said: “Never does obscenity (al-faahishah) become manifest amongst a people such that they make it open, except that plagues and diseases afflict them that had never appeared in their ancestors who have passed (before them). May Allah protect our country from this contagious outbreak- Amin. In Addition is the carnage orchestrated by the dreadful sect- Boko Haram in states like Zamfara, Adamawa, Yobe, Borno. Added to this list is the latest Abuja bombing which took place on Monday morning, 13th April, 2014, by 6.45a.m in Nyanya- a densely populated area of Abuja at the urban mass transport company limited garage, Nyanya, Abuja. Over hundred innocent souls were dead at the aftermath, many were wounded, and the count is still on. Also, over 200 girls were abducted in Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok in Borno State, on Monday night by members of the Boko Haram sect. These without doubt are part of the tribulations we have caused ourselves due to sins of our own making, may Allah forgive us and ward off this evil from our nation. Amin. Oh Allah descend peace; flowing with continuous tranquility and security upon Nigeria and all other Muslim nations.

THE DEFECTS IN TABARRUJ (DISPLAY OF ADORNMENT CAREFREELY) CONT’D

All praise is due to Allah, Who said: “And abide in your houses and do not display yourselves as [was] the display of the former times of ignorance. “ (33:33) I bear witness that there is no deity worthy to be worship except Him alone, without partner. I equally bear witness that our leader and our master, Muhammad is His servant and messenger who said: “The similitude of the one who swaggers in her adornment before those who are forbidden to see her, is that of darkness without light on the day of resurrection.” (Sunan; no: 1167). O Allah shower your peace and blessing upon Muhammad (SAW), his household, his companions, and those who follow them in righteousness till the Day of resurrection. Thereafter, O servant of Allaah, I admonish you and myself to fear Allaah, Allah said: " إِنَّ الَّذِينَ اتَّقَوْا إِذَا مَسَّهُمْ طَائِفٌ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ تَذَكَّرُوا فَإِذَا هُمْ مُبْصِرُونَ (201) { الأعراف : 201 } “Indeed, those who fear Allah - when an impulse touches them from Satan, they remember [Him] and at once they have insight.”(7: 201) My brothers and sisters in faith, today’s sermon shall be the continuation of last week’s sermon on: “The Defects in Tabarruj- (display of adornment carefreely) ”. Eight defects were mentioned last week as follows: 1- Tabarruj is disobedience to Allah and the Messenger (pbuh); 2- Tabarruj is a major destroying sin; 3- Tabarruj incurs curse and eviction from the mercy of Allah; 4- Tabarruj is the character of the inmate of hell; 5-Tabarruj will be the darkness of the day of resurrection; 6- Tabarruj is hypocrisy; 7-Tabarruj is immorality; 8- Tabarruj is profligacy and scandal. 9- Tabarruj is the sunnah of Iblis: The battle between with shaitan- the avowed enemy is fundamental, ferocious and endless. Allah says: (قَالَ فَبِمَا أَغْوَيْتَنِي لَأَقْعُدَنَّ لَهُمْ صِرَاطَكَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ (16) ثُمَّ لَآتِيَنَّهُمْ مِنْ بَيْنِ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ وَعَنْ أَيْمَانِهِمْ وَعَنْ شَمَائِلِهِمْ وَلَا تَجِدُ أَكْثَرَهُمْ شَاكِرِينَ (17)) [الأعراف: 16، 17] “[Satan] said, "Because You have put me in error, I will surely sit in wait for them on Your straight path. (17) Then I will come to them from before them and from behind them and on their right and on their left, and You will not find most of them grateful [to You]." (7: 16- 17) Man has got no protector from shaitan except with piety, faith, dhikr, subjection of desires, conquering the passion for the guidance of Allah. The encounter between Adam and Iblis reveals that to feel shamefulness on the exposure of nudity is an implanted disposition in human nature. “But Satan whispered to them to make apparent to them that which was concealed from them of their private parts. … (22) So he made them fall, through deception. And when they tasted of the tree, their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten together over themselves from the leaves of Paradise … " (7: 20, 22) (فَأَكَلَا مِنْهَا فَبَدَتْ لَهُمَا سَوْآتُهُمَا وَطَفِقَا يَخْصِفَانِ عَلَيْهِمَا مِنْ وَرَقِ الْجَنَّةِ) [طه: 121] “And Adam and his wife ate of it, and their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten over themselves from the leaves of Paradise.” (7: 121) Adam forgot and commit error, he repented and sought forgiveness and was forgiven, and this process ended the story of the First Committed Sin while the record remains to guide the progeny of Adam. The encounter also shows the extent of shaitan’s aspiration in achieving the nudity project. Allah warns thus: (يَا بَنِي آدَمَ لَا يَفْتِنَنَّكُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ كَمَا أَخْرَجَ أَبَوَيْكُمْ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ يَنْزِعُ عَنْهُمَا لِبَاسَهُمَا لِيُرِيَهُمَا سَوْآتِهِمَا إِنَّهُ يَرَاكُمْ هُوَ وَقَبِيلُهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا تَرَوْنَهُمْ إِنَّا جَعَلْنَا الشَّيَاطِينَ أَوْلِيَاءَ لِلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ (27)) [الأعراف: 27] “O children of Adam, let not Satan tempt you as he removed your parents from Paradise, stripping them of their clothing to show them their private parts. Indeed, he sees you, he and his tribe, from where you do not see them. Indeed, We have made the devils allies to those who do not believe.” (7: 27) Shaitan is the actual founder of the nudity campaign as well as the first chief to all the vanguards of women liberation among men and jinns who call crave to liberate women from modesty. Allah says: (إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّ فَاتَّخِذُوهُ عَدُوًّا إِنَّمَا يَدْعُو حِزْبَهُ لِيَكُونُوا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ السَّعِيرِ (6)) [فاطر: 6] “ Indeed, Satan is an enemy to you; so take him as an enemy. He only invites his party to be among the companions of the Blaze.” (35: 6) 10- Tabarruj – a legacy of the Jews and Christians: (وَيَسْعَوْنَ فِي الْأَرْضِ فَسَادًا وَاللَّهُ لَا يُحِبُّ الْمُفْسِدِينَ (64)) [المائدة: 64] “And they strive throughout the land [causing] corruption, and Allah does not like corrupters.” (5: 64) The elders of the Zionists as part of their plans to subjugate the world as contained in “Protocols of the elders of the zion” have favoured waging war against good morals and demolition of the family structure through various means applicable; including production of various erotic films, reckless dresses, magazines, distributed worldwide … “ (The Woman between honour of Islam and humiliation of the Jahiliyyah; pg 29 ) The Prophet said: “I have not left any temptation most harmful to men than the women.” 11- Tabarruj is an ill-smelling Jahiliyyah: Allah says: (وَقَرْنَ فِي بُيُوتِكُنَّ وَلَا تَبَرَّجْنَ تَبَرُّجَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ الْأُولَى) [الأحزاب: 33] “And abide in your houses and do not display yourselves as [was] the display of the former times of ignorance. “ (33:33) The Prophet described the Jahiliyyah propagation as stinking and commanded us to shun it, because Allah has also described the Prophet (pbuh) as someone who guides to pureness: ((وَيُحِلُّ لَهُمُ الطَّيِّبَاتِ وَيُحَرِّمُ عَلَيْهِمُ الْخَبَائِثَ) [الأعراف: 157]) “and makes lawful for them the good things and prohibits for them the evil…” (7: 157) The Prophet also said while dissociating from Jahiliyyah: “He is not of us he who slaps the cheeks, tears the clothes and follows the tradition of the Days of Ignorance is not from us." (Bukhari) The Prophet said, "The most hated persons to Allah are three: (1) A person who deviates from the right conduct, i.e., an evil doer, in the Haram (sanctuaries of Mecca and Medina); (2) a person who seeks that the traditions of the Pre-lslamic Period of Ignorance, should remain in Islam (3) and a person who seeks to shed somebody's blood without any right." (Bukhari) 12- Tabarruj is backwardness, degeneration and retrogression: The encounter between Adam and Iblis reveals that to feel shamefulness on the exposure of nudity is an implanted disposition in human nature. (فَوَسْوَسَ لَهُمَا الشَّيْطَانُ لِيُبْدِيَ لَهُمَا مَا وُورِيَ عَنْهُمَا مِنْ سَوْآتِهِمَا) [الأعراف: 20] ،. وقال عز وجل: (فَدَلَّاهُمَا بِغُرُورٍ فَلَمَّا ذَاقَا الشَّجَرَةَ بَدَتْ لَهُمَا سَوْآتُهُمَا وَطَفِقَا يَخْصِفَانِ عَلَيْهِمَا مِنْ وَرَقِ الْجَنَّةِ) [الأعراف: 22] “But Satan whispered to them to make apparent to them that which was concealed from them of their private parts. … (22) So he made them fall, through deception. And when they tasted of the tree, their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten together over themselves from the leaves of Paradise … " (7: 20, 22) (فَأَكَلَا مِنْهَا فَبَدَتْ لَهُمَا سَوْآتُهُمَا وَطَفِقَا يَخْصِفَانِ عَلَيْهِمَا مِنْ وَرَقِ الْجَنَّةِ) [طه: 121] . “And Adam and his wife ate of it, and their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten over themselves from the leaves of Paradise.” (7: 121) Allah says thus: (يَا بَنِي آدَمَ لَا يَفْتِنَنَّكُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ كَمَا أَخْرَجَ أَبَوَيْكُمْ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ يَنْزِعُ عَنْهُمَا لِبَاسَهُمَا لِيُرِيَهُمَا سَوْآتِهِمَا إِنَّهُ يَرَاكُمْ هُوَ وَقَبِيلُهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا تَرَوْنَهُمْ إِنَّا جَعَلْنَا الشَّيَاطِينَ أَوْلِيَاءَ لِلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ (27)) [الأعراف: 27] “O children of Adam, let not Satan tempt you as he removed your parents from Paradise, stripping them of their clothing to show them their private parts. Indeed, he sees you, he and his tribe, from where you do not see them. Indeed, We have made the devils allies to those who do not believe.” (7: 27) Clothes serve as cover for man’s privacy, and as a form of adornment, while taqwa- piety serves as the cover and raiment for the nudity of the soul. An upright nature abhors exposure of physical and spiritual nudity, it strives to cover it. 'The mother of Yemen 's revolution- "Tawakkul Karman" , ' when asked about her Hijab by journalists and how it is not proportionate with her level of intellect and education , replied: "Man in early times was almost naked , and as his intellect evolved he started wearing clothes. What I am today and what I'm wearing represents the highest level of thought and civilization that man has achieved , and is not regressive. It's the removal of clothes again that is a regression back to the ancient times.'' 13- Tabarruj is doorway to unending evil: The reflection on the religious references and the historical trends will expose the evil of Tabarruj on life and religion, especially when free mix of the opposite sexes is added to it. Some of the evil consequences include: - Competition among nude women in forbidden ornamentation only to attract men’s attention, and made women a cheap commodity for every eye. - Reluctance to marry. - Prevalence of sinful immoralities. - Moral decadence among men particularly among youth which lead them to varying degree of corrupt morals. - Destruction of family ties, lack of confidence among its members, and the prevalence of divorce. - Trading with women, as a means of advertisement or entertainment in areas of trade and others. - Women abuse and exposing her to the harm of the wicked and foolish ones. - The widespread of diseases: The Prophet (pbuh) said: “Never does obscenity (al-faahishah) become manifest amongst a people such that they make it open, except that plagues and diseases afflict them that had never appeared in their ancestors who have passed (before them). - Facilitating the sins of adultery of the eyes and creating difficulty in implementing the command to lower the gaze. The Prophet (pbuh) said: “The fornication of the eyes is the looking” - The cause of a general and dangerous punishment, worse than the atomic bombs or earthquakes. Allah says: (وَإِذَا أَرَدْنَا أَنْ نُهْلِكَ قَرْيَةً أَمَرْنَا مُتْرَفِيهَا فَفَسَقُوا فِيهَا فَحَقَّ عَلَيْهَا الْقَوْلُ فَدَمَّرْنَاهَا تَدْمِيرًا (16)) [الإسراء: 16] “And when We intend to destroy a city, We command its affluent but they defiantly disobey therein; so the word comes into effect upon it, and We destroy it with [complete] destruction.” (17: 16) The Prophet (pbuh) said: “Verily when the people see evil and fail to correct it, it will become inevitable that they all will be covered with the wrath of Allah” (Abu Dawu, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah) SECOND KHUTBAH All praises are due to Allah, Who says: : " ظَهَرَ الْفَسَادُ فِي الْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ أَيْدِي النَّاسِ لِيُذِيقَهُمْ بَعْضَ الَّذِي عَمِلُوا لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ (41) {الرّوم : 41 }. Corruption has appeared throughout the land and sea by [reason of] what the hands of people have earned so He may let them taste part of [the consequence of] what they have done that perhaps they will return [to righteousness]. (30: 41) Peace and blessings be upon Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) raised to perfect good characters for men, his household, companions and those who follow them till the day of recompense. Thereafter, Servants of Allah, the evil of baby factory and sale of human parts which was hitherto rampant in the south-east (Abia, Edo etc) have now been discovered in the south-west- Ogun and Oyo states at Alagbole and Aderemi areas. Girls of ages 13- 19 were camped, male attendant arranged to impregnate them, on delivery the babies are sold to the patrons of these dungeons as sacrifices to their fetish at humiliating prices. In addition to that is the ongoing CONFAB has turned out to be a field of attacking Islam and criticizing the impact of Islamic codes or terminologies in the Nigerian Constitution which was only written by non-Muslims. They challenged inclusion of terms like ALLAH, AL-QUR’AN etc in the constitution, unfortunately no one could stand to challenge why 95% of the Ministers are Christians, 62% of the two houses are Christians and why 80% of Officers- the army, Air Force and Navy are Christians!!! May Allah help us. Oh Allah descend peace; flowing with continuous tranquility and security upon Nigeria and all other Muslim nations.

THE DEFECTS IN TABARRUJ (DISPLAY OF ADORNMENT CAREFREELY)

All praise is due to Allah, Who said: “And abide in your houses and do not display yourselves as [was] the display of the former times of ignorance. “ (33:33) I bear witness that there is no deity worthy to be worship except Him alone, without partner. I equally bear witness that our leader and our master, Muhammad is His servant and messenger. O Allah shower your peace and blessing upon Muhammad (SAW), his household, his companions, and those who follow them in righteousness till the Day of resurrection. Thereafter, O servant of Allaah, I admonish you and myself to fear Allaah, Allah said: " يَا بَنِي آدَمَ إِمَّا يَأْتِيَنَّكُمْ رُسُلٌ مِنْكُمْ يَقُصُّونَ عَلَيْكُمْ آيَاتِي فَمَنِ اتَّقَى وَأَصْلَحَ فَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ (35) وَالَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا وَاسْتَكْبَرُوا عَنْهَا أُولَئِكَ أَصْحَابُ النَّارِ هُمْ فِيهَا خَالِدُونَ (36) " { الأعْرَاف : 35- 36 } “O children of Adam, if there come to you messengers from among you relating to you My verses, then whoever fears Allah and reforms - there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve. ( 36 ) But the ones who deny Our verses and are arrogant toward them - those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally.”(7: 35-36) My brothers and sisters in faith, today’s sermon is titled: “The Defects in Tabarruj- (display of adornment carefreely) ” having discussed “Virtues of Hijab” last week. “The Defects in Tabarruj- (display of adornment carefreely) Tabarruj- means the display of her adornment, and beauties to attract men, and engaging in swaggering and tilting while walking. (Lisanul-Arab) Tabarruj technically means the display by women of their adornments and beauties. It also includes swaggering and tilting while walking. It also refers to all adornments and dressing which is intended to crave satisfaction of the observers, including the face cover having shinning and attractive colours and charming designs or shapes …such is one of the manifestation of the tabarruj of the days of ignorance” (Al-hijab; Mawdudi; pg: 132) “The Defects in Tabarruj- (display of adornment carefreely) 1- Tabarruj is disobedience to Allah and the Messenger (pbuh): The prophet said: “All my ummah shall enter paradise except he who rejects” they said: “O messenger of Allah, who will reject?” he replied: “He who follows me will enter paradise and he who disobeys me have rejected” (bukhari). Mu’awiyah said the prophet (pbuh) prohibited seven things and I shall you of them and forbid them for you, they are: Wailing in mourning the dead, music, pictures, display of adornment and beauties, flesh of beasts, gold and silk.” 2- Tabarruj is a major destroying sin: Umaymah bint Ruqayqah came to take pledge of Allegiance to Islam from the prophet (pbuh) and he said: “I took pledge with you that you will not associate anything with Allah, nor will you steal, nor will you commit unlawful sexual intercourse, nor will they kill your children, nor will you bring forth a slander you have invented between your arms and legs, nor will you engage in wailing over the dead, nor will you engage in tabarruj of the days of ignorance …” (Ahmad) 3- Tabarruj incurs curse and eviction from the mercy of Allah: The prophet said: “The end time of my ummah shall witness some women who are clothed but naked, on their heads will be the like of the humps of the camels. Curse them, they are cursed.” (Tabaraaniy) The end time of my ummah shall witness some men riding on saddles like the saddles for journey, they pack at the Masjid entrance, their wives will be clothed but naked, on their heads will be the like of the humps of the camels. Curse them, they are cursed. If there will be another ummah after your Ummah, your women would have been of service to them the same way the women of the people before you were of service to you” (Ahmad) 4- Tabarruj is the character of the inmate of hell: Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There are two types of the people of Hell whom I have not seen: men with whips like the tails of cattle with which they strike the people, and women who are clothed but naked, walking with an enticing gait, with something like the humps of camels on their heads. They will not enter Paradise nor even smell its fragrance, and its fragrance can be smelled from such and such a distance.” 5- Tabarruj will be the darkness of the day of resurrection: Maymunah bint Sa’d said: The Prophet (pbuh) said: “The similitude of the one who swaggers in her adornment before those who are forbidden to see her, is that of darkness without light on the day of resurrection.” (Sunan; no: 1167) 6- Tabarruj is hypocrisy: The Prophet said: “The best of your women are beloved and child-bearing ones, the favourable, the comforting, provided they fear Allah. And the worst of your women are the ones who wantonly display their beauties, who walk with enticement, they are hypocrites, they will not enter paradise except as the Chough (A European corvine bird of small or medium size with red legs and glossy black plumage) 7- Tabarruj is immorality: Allah said: وَإِذَا فَعَلُوا فَاحِشَةً قَالُوا وَجَدْنَا عَلَيْهَا آبَاءَنَا وَاللَّهُ أَمَرَنَا بِهَا قُلْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَأْمُرُ بِالْفَحْشَاءِ أَتَقُولُونَ عَلَى اللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ (28)) [الأعراف: 28] ،. “And when they commit an immorality, they say, "We found our fathers doing it, and Allah has ordered us to do it." Say, "Indeed, Allah does not order immorality. Do you say about Allah that which you do not know?" (7: 28) والشيطان هو الذي يأمر بهذه الفاحشة: (الشَّيْطَانُ يَعِدُكُمُ الْفَقْرَ وَيَأْمُرُكُمْ بِالْفَحْشَاءِ) [البقرة: 268] “Satan threatens you with poverty and orders you to immorality” (2: 268) A woman who is dressed naked is a dangerous bacteria which spreads immorality in the Islamic society. Allah says: (إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يُحِبُّونَ أَنْ تَشِيعَ الْفَاحِشَةُ فِي الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ وَاللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ وَأَنْتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ (19)) [النور: 19] “Indeed, those who like that immorality should be spread [or publicized] among those who have believed will have a painful punishment in this world and the Hereafter. And Allah knows and you do not know.” (24: 19) The Prophet (pbuh) said: “Any woman who applies the perfume and goes out to the people to perceive the odour is an adulteress, and every eye that sees her is an adulteress” 8- Tabarruj is profligacy and scandal: The Prophet said: “Any woman who uncovers herself outside her husband’s house have torn the guard between her and Allah – the exalted” (Ahmad & Hakim). The prophet (pbuh) said: “There three kinds of people you should not ask about them: a man who dissociated from the Jamaa’ah and disobey his Imam and died disobedient. And a slave male of female, who runaway from the master and died, and a woman whose husband was absent having provided for her every worldly provision and she wantonly displayed her beauties after him, never ask about them.” (Bukhari, ibn hibaan, hakim & ahmad) SECOND KHUTBAH All praises are due to Allah, Who says: إِنَّ الَّذِينَ فَتَنُوا الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَتُوبُوا فَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ الْحَرِيقِ (10) إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَهُمْ جَنَّاتٌ تَجْرِي مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهَارُ ذَلِكَ الْفَوْزُ الْكَبِيرُ (11) {البروج :10- 11} Indeed, those who have tortured the believing men and believing women and then have not repented will have the punishment of Hell, and they will have the punishment of the Burning Fire. ( 11 ) Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds will have gardens beneath which rivers flow. That is the great attainment. (85: 10- 11) Peace and blessings be upon Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) raised to perfect good characters for men, his household, companions and those who follow them till the day of recompense. Thereafter, Servants of Allah, the case discussed last week about Egypt is getting worse, students of the universities are being killed and tortured unjustly, protests day and night are continuous … We equally rejoice with the people of turkey over their just concluded election … In addition to that are the events in Nigeria- the incessant killings, armed robbery, kidnapping, baby factory palaver, the CONFAB and the effrontery at Islam by some christian participants, and the traumatic unabated onslaught of boko haram. Oh Allah descend peace; flowing with continuous tranquility and security upon Nigeria and all other Muslim nations. O Allah accept the worship of the pilgrims of hajj and Umrah, and grant us all Your pleasure, And the last of our call will be, "Praise to Allah, Lord of the worlds!"
